Tuesday: I don't believe it! We're dying. Plus comp and the cult of Brooker (29/09/2009)
Better today, with signs of an improving week all round. tvBite is motivated and up for it. Or at least, will be after this cup of tea and a biscuit.
What To Watch

Two Feet In The Grave, BBC1, 10.45pm
As part of the Death And Dying season - what with that, alongside BBC4's Electric Dreams theme, BBC looks to be after four seasons in one day - Richard Wilson investigates the manner of our dying, by going around and looking at the ways people are buried or dealt with after death. The central message of the show is that death is a pointless taboo - it's coming, like it or not, and avoiding the issue probably makes it more terrifying and harder for people around you to grieve. This gets slightly lost because Richard is sent round to so many different places to talk to people, from crematorium workers to a man dying in a hospice to a coffin makers. There's so many bits that it becomes a jumble. Still, there are incredibly moving passages, notably with the man who buried his son in his own garden and takes comfort from the tree planted on top of him.

Charlie Brooker's Gameswipe, BBC4, 10pm
tvBite is increasingly uncertain about the cult of Brooker. It's fair enough when he's writing things like this; there seems to be no way to disagree with him. But when he's awkwardly presenting average TV shows, the same fans seem to be unwilling to notice that a lot of what he does is a bit rubbish. No previews were available for this and his big shoebox face seems to have been digitally remastered so it might be good. If you're interested in computer games. And one of his legion of fans.

Electric Dreams, BBC4, 9pm
An extremely BBC4 family volunteer to go back in time to the 1970s for 10 days (1 day=1 year) to sample life without technology. Sound familiar? Yes. It's this.
Also... Uplifting stuff on 2 The Choir: Boys Don't Sing Revisited, BBC2, 9pm. A damaged mother and daughter take part in How To Look Good Naked, C4, 9pm. And Chuck, Virgin1, 9pm is consistently entertaining.
What To Eat

French Cabbage and Bacon Galette
1/2 Savoy cabbage, roughly chopped
Olive oil
200g lardons or bacon, cubed
2 eggs
3 shallots, finely diced
3 cloves of garlic, chopped very fine
Chopped parsley
200g flour
250 ml milk

Preheat the oven to 180C.

Boil the cabbage for a couple of minutes, then drain. Place a round pie dish in the oven, covered with butter.

Mix the bacon, eggs, shallots, garlic and parsley. Season well. Slowly mix in the flour and the milk and mix until all the lumps are gone.

Spread half the dough over the base of the dish, place the cabbage firmly on top, then cover with the remaining dough and press down hard.

Place in the oven for 35 minutes.

Ah, lovely wine. Why not buy a case? It'll make you feel sophisticated.
