Thursdee: A scary sleeping toddler and a certain show that we're totally ignoring (26/11/2009)
Christmas pull-up is a testing time for people who work in television. Please excuse a low-quality product for the next week or two.
What To Watch

Jess: Britain's Youngest Sleepwalker, C4, 9pm
Ah, look. Jess is absolutely adorable. She really is. She's such a sweet, smiley three-year-old. And then she goes to bed. And she becomes possessed. Not Acorah-style possessed - but absolutely demons-in-her-face possessed. Singing and playing games and saying words - everything except throwing up green spew - while clearly being asleep. It's one of the strangest things you'll see. Truth is, when they get to the sleep hospital, the documentary goes downhill 'cause they work out that there's not actual ghosts in her eyeballs or spirits infecting her gums. All that needs to happen is that her mum just needs her to get into proper sleeping habits. Which is heartwarming, but not as cool as the mental sleeping nonsense.

QI, BBC2, 9.30pm
Did you know that Stephen Fry is on Twitter? Someone should report it. Anyhow, this is his best work for about 10 years and shows no sign of tailing off just yet. He's joined by the person who will play him in the The Adventures Of Junior Fry, David Mitchell, Dara O'Briariaiaiaiaaiaaiaiain, Reliable Rob Brydon and Alan 'Bloody' Davies. Perfect if watched through a red wine haze after a big meal.

The Restaurant, BBC2, 8pm
What happened to poor old Badger? Why couldn't he deal with non-military people after he'd ordered wrong-sized soup cups?
Also... Curb Your Enthusiasm, More4, 10.40pm Larry causes an accidental death while playing golf. Wonderful. Wonderland, BBC2, 9.50pm is about first-time swimmers.
What To Eat

Roast Aubergine Tikka with Spiced Cabbage

1 large aubergine, in 1cm slices
2 tbsps tikka spice paste
4 tbsps natural yoghurt
1 tbsp vegetable oil
½ tsp cumin seeds
1 tsp ground coriander
2 mild green chillies, deseeded and sliced
2cm fresh ginger, finely chopped
Pinch ground turmeric
200g cabbage, shredded
½ lemon, juiced
Handful of peas, thawed

To serve

Naan bread
Fresh coriander

Preheat the oven to 200°C.

Toss the aubergines in the spice paste and yoghurt. Place into the oven and bake for about 10 minutes. Turn the aubergines over and continue to cook.

Place the naans into the oven to warm up.

Once the aubergines have been turned, heat the vegetable oil over a medium heat in a large frying pan. Add the cumin seeds. Once they start to pop, add the ground coriander, chilli, ginger and turmeric. Cook for another minute.

Add the cabbage, cover and cook for 4-5 minutes.

Remove the lid and add the lemon juice and peas. Cook uncovered for a further 3 minutes.

Divide between plates and top with the aubergine slices and coriander. Serve with the warm naan bread.

TV Stars We Haven't Known

Obviously, some TV Stars are easier to get hold of than others. For example, it is quite difficult to get 10 minutes on the phone with Andrew Sachs.

We were reminded of this at a recent press trip to the set of Ashes To Ashes when the cast literally ran away at lunchtime instead of speaking to us. There was an awkward moment of silence as we saw them sprint past the canteen before the press person could get up.

Sometimes, however, it can be ridiculously hard to get hold of people, who all seem to have nothing better to do.

For example, the week after waiting five hours in a bus for Claire Goose, tvBite spent 6 hours waiting in a rugby field for Building Society advertiser Mark Benton. He then gave us an interview that was duly cut by our editor.

Then there was the occasion when we were sent by a downmarket tabloid to interview Mark Moraghan, then playing Owen from either Holby City or Casualty, now singing with Nicky Campbell.

We trekked to Bristol to the studios, taking the red-eye (8pm) from Paddington. We arrived, were driven to the studio and sat at a plastic table with a cup of tea. And waited. And waited.

Three hours later, he came out, said "I don't talk to that downmarket tabloid" and walked off. Respect. Neither would we.
